WIRELESS COMMUNITY TECH INFO-cum-NETWORKING SESSION

The first Tech Info-cum-Networking Session for the Wireless Community was held on 1st April 2005 at the Nanyang Polytechnic. It was attended by about 30 Technopreneurs / Start-ups and Partners from the Community. The chosen topic for the afternoon’s Session was Wireless Broadband – a rapidly emerging technology for the 21st Century.

 

The Session was kicked off by Mr Ian Lee from CET who gave a very useful overview of the Wireless Broadband playing field. He shared from an insider’s viewpoint the potential of this industry with a vast number of possible applications in the area of mobile multimedia and high-speed data communications. He also invited participation from companies in the Community to collaborate in projects with CET.

 

The next speaker was Mr Natarajan, S. from Intel. Coming from a strong technical background and extensive experience in the field, Mr Natarajan gave a solid overview of the technology and standards for IEEE802.16 and WiMax. He also shared about Intel’s work in this area and the solutions that the company can provide.

 

The Session was wrapped up by Dr Wilson Onn from Xilinx. He shared about Xilinx’s expertise in WiMax and the possible solutions using FPGAs.

 

After the interesting and useful talks, the participants spent the time networking and discussing possible development and business opportunities.

 

In general, the feedback from the participants was very positive and many are looking forward to the next Tech Info-cum-Networking Session in May/June.
